Anti-Ageing Moisturizers – The Secret To Beautiful And Younger Looking Skin

An individual’s youth is considered as the best period of time in their life. The energy levels are at its peak in this period, but with age these energy levels drop down. This is one of the effects of ageing.

The physical and mental change which the human body goes through as they grow old is termed as ageing.

One of the most visible effects of ageing can be seen with the formation of wrinkles on the skin and the loosening of skin. With age, the skin appears to dry out more because of which the skin loses its flexibility.

The human body system is in constant need of water .Water helps in flushing out the toxins from the body. The removal of these harmful substances benefits the skin too. It makes the skin look more beautiful and youthful .Water is also needed to keep the skin hydrated.

Anti-ageing moisturizers aim at reducing the loss of water from the skin, because of evaporation. These moisturizers also help in reducing the visible effects of ageing like wrinkles and dark spots.

Humectants are those ingredients which prevent drying up of skin by attracting water from the atmosphere. They also help in attracting water from the dermis into the epidermis. The most commonly used humectants in moisturizers are glycerin and sorbitol.

On the other hand the occlusive ingredients help in keeping the skin hydrated by forming a protective layer on the skin which prevents the water to evaporate from the surface of the skin. Some of the occlusive ingredients present in the moisturizers include petrolatum, olive oil and mineral oil.

Emollient is another ingredient present in anti-ageing moisturizers. Not only does it help in maintaining the water level of the skin, but it also helps in filling up the spaces present between the cells of the skin formed because of the peeling of skin because of age progression. This helps in giving a softer and smoother appearance of the skin.

Antioxidants are the other major ingredient present in anti-ageing moisturizers .Retinol and Alpha Hydroxyl Acids or AHA is the two commonly used antioxidants.

Collagen is a protein present in the skin which helps in keeping the skin firm, but with age the collagen begins to breakdown. Retinol helps in the formation of collagen by the skin cells and maintains the firm appearance of the skin.

AHA helps in the removal of the dead skin present on the skin surface and thus promoting the growth of a new layer of skin. AHA is also known to stimulate the growth collagen helping in the reduction of the visible appearance of wrinkles. The different AHA’s present in the moisturizers are lactic acid, glycolic acid and citric acid.

There are different anti-ageing moisturizers available for different skin types.

Thus anti-ageing moisturizers help in eliminating the visible effects of ageing which in turn helps in maintaining the youthfulness of the skin.
